Pick up some handy hints, tips and advice, all to do with your eyewear, frames, lenses and experience.
Varifocal lenses offer the convenience of seeing clearly at various distances without the need for multiple pairs of glasses. However, it can take some time to adjust to them, regardless if you are a new or experienced user. Here are a few tips to help you ease into your new lenses:
Be Patient
Give it Time: It’s normal to experience some initial discomfort or blurry vision as your eyes adjust to the new lens design.
Gradual Adjustment: Start by wearing your varifocals for short periods and gradually increase the wear time in a comfortable environment.
Understand The Lens Design
Different Zones: Varifocal lenses have separate zones for distance, intermediate, and near vision.
Head and Eye Movement: Learn to move your head and eyes to focus on objects at different distances. Look at an object and tilt your chin/head up and down to see how the focus changes.
Practice Makes Perfect
Everyday Activities: Incorporate your varifocals into your daily routine.
Time: You should allow your eyes plenty of time to settle in to your new lenses. Some people can settle in to new lenses within hours, others may take a few weeks.
Breakfing them in: We often refer to getting used to new lenses like breaking in new boots/shoes. You need to spend time wearing them to then feel more comfortable and relaxed wearing them.

Being issued a new prescription can mean that you may experience some differences with your vision. Your new prescription can change in various ways, resulting in different experiences.
Depending upon what you use your glasses for, will depend upon your experience and the advice you should take.
If your prescription has changed in the part where is says "SPH" or "Sphere", then you can sometimes expect to feel objects feeling closer or further away, depending upon whether you have a + or - prescription.
If your prescription has changed in the "CYL" or "Cylinder", then sometimes you can experience straight edges of door frames, work tops or screens, to have a slight curvature to them.
Not everyone will experience these two elements above, you may notice it more or less than previous prescription changes. 9 times out of 10, clients eyes adapt and adjust to these new prescriptions. This can take hours or weeks, there is no rule to how long it should take.
Make sure that you feel safe and as comfortable as possible when operating machinery or driving.
Think about breaking in a new pair of shoes/boots, you have to wear then in to become comfortable in them. This can be the same as getting used to a new prescription.
The main thing to remember is that we are here to help. Regardless of where you have had your eyewear from, if you are struggling or have questions about your prescription, then feel free to get in touch.
Having dirty, smeary lenses can be irritating. Do you find that you are constantly cleaning your lenses, only to find them worse than before you started?
Here are some useful tips for you!
Cleaning cloth
Make sure that your cleaning cloth is actually clean. So many people will use the same cloth for months and months without replacing or cleaning it. The cloth will pick up dirt and oils when being used, this then gets wiped back on to your lenses. Our cleaning cloths can easily be hand washed in warm, soapy water. Or, if you need a new one, simply ask a member of the team.
Lens cleaner
Use our great quality lens cleaner that we supply along with your cleaning cloth. This cleaner is designed to help reduce smearing whilst cleaning the lens surface. Our lens cleaner bottles can be refilled free of charge, either at our showroom or via our mobile home visit services, completely free of charge.
Correct adjustments
Incorrectly fitted eyewear can cause problem as the lenses or frame may be touching your skin. This is mostly noticeable where the frames may touch your cheeks, brow or bridge of your nose. The natural oil from our skin, along with facial products, such as face creams, can easily deposit onto your frames and lenses. This also then means that the oil and skin products then build up in the grooves around the lens, meaning that when you are cleaning your lenses, you are simply moving these deposits from one part of the lens to another. Feel free to get in touch if you need an adjustment to help with this, it's completely free of charge.
Lifestyles
Sometimes your hobbie, occupation or lifestyle, may be a factor. Many environments put glasses through a tough day. Heat, steam, oils, sprays, dust, dirt, you name it, your lenses are taking a lot on during the day. Sometimes a separate pair of glasses may be suitable for your lifestyle. Alternatively, you may need to spend a bit more time cleaning your lenses, or making adjustments to prevent your eyewear from being in such environments.
Lens quality
Quite often we see clients that wish to have their lenses cleaned, but in actual fact, it is the lens coatings that are breaking down which is creating blurred vision or poor visual clarity. All coatings have an expected life span, but if your coatings are deteriorating, there is very little that can be done, other than to replace the lenses. Keep in mind that all Precision Optics Eyewear lenses come with a 2 year manufacturers guarantee to protect you against this if it is a manufacturing defect/fault.
Professional clean
Sometimes your glasses will need some extra care. We are able to professionally clean your frames and lenses. Removal of lenses, screws and parts, are sometimes the only way to get everything as close to new as possible. We also have special tools and cleaning products, made specifically for cleaning frames and lenses.
If you need any assistance, then please let us know, and we will be happy to help.
There are lots of lenses available in the optical industry, sometimes it can be confusing with different names, terminology and advice.
